In the words of our founder, John Conquest, publisher of 3rd COAST MUSIC... "FARM... started out pretty much as a blue sky lampoon of the Americana Music Association, an unstructured, nonhierarchical, grassroots, anti-organization that would have none of the things the AMA has, but would offer what the AMA doesn't, practical reasons for people to belong. No dues, no rules, no officers, no mission, no special interests, only benefits.... there is one unavoidable catch - it is utterly dependent on the Internet. If everything is done by email, it won't cost either one of us a dime and that's the way I want to keep it."

"Of course, John and I violated that 'won't cost either one of us a dime' plan before two weeks had passed by registering friendsofamericanrootsmusic.org as an official Internet domain name," laughs webmaster Bill Groll, head wrangler at Country Roots Music.

Why should you join FARM? Mostly just to show your support for American Roots Music in all its forms. I mean, we are not really promising you anything beyond that. We do have sponsors, see below, and most of them have volunteered to provide some sort of benefit to FARMers. Some can offer a discount on products or services; some can only provide you with an opportunity to meet and perhaps do business with like-minded individuals. So contact our sponsors and say something like "I'm a FARMer, whatcha got for me?"

Become a FARMer and get your membership card, good for the rest of your life and suitable for laminating by sending an email to john@friendsofamericanrootsmusic.org. You will receive by return email your membership number and a link to our web-based card printing system where all members can print out their own fancy membership cards.
